INTRODUCTION

Ragging is completely prohibited in HEIs and hostels. Anyone found guilty of ragging and / or abetting ragging whether actively or passively, or being a part of conspiracy to promote ragging, is liable to be punished under the provisions of the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009, as well as under the provisions of relevant laws in force in force from time to time.

WHAT IS RAGGING?

Ragging is any act that causes physical, psychological, or emotional harm to a student, especially newcomers, through bullying, harassment, or humiliation. It can involve verbal, physical, or sexual abuse, forcing students into inappropriate actions, or creating a fear-driven environment.

Types of Ragging :

  • 1. Verbal Ragging – Using abusive language, insulting, or forcing a junior to say or do something embarrassing.
  • 2. Psychological Ragging – Mental harassment through threats, intimidation, or isolation.
  • 3. Physical Ragging – Forcing a student to perform physical tasks, harming them, or any form of physical assault.
  • 4. Sexual Ragging – Forcing someone into inappropriate activities or making sexually explicit comments.
  • 5. Cyber Ragging – Bullying, harassment, or humiliation through social media, messages, or emails.

Punishments for Ragging :

Students involved in ragging are subject to strict disciplinary and legal consequences, which may include:

  • Temporary suspension (rustication) or permanent expulsion from the institution.
  • Disqualification from appearing in examinations, campus placements, or receiving scholarships.
  • Legal proceedings, which may lead to imprisonment of up to 10 years in severe cases.
  • Monetary penalties ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹50,000.

Anti-Ragging Committee

Our institution has established a dedicated Anti-Ragging Committee and Squad, comprising faculty, staff, police personnel, and local authority representatives, to conduct regular inspections and maintain vigilance.
